About Me

About Me

I have had a keen interest in the natural world for as long as I can remember. In 1996, while still at school, I purchased my first SLR camera and began taking photographs of the wildlife I encountered around my home near Cheltenham, England and on family holidays in Finland.

Over the years I have used several different cameras starting with the semi-automatic Minolta X-300 and then X-700, through to my first digital (a Hewlett-Packard HP945), up to a Nikon D70 digital SLR camera in 2003, a Nikon D200 until late 2010 and most recently a Nikon D300s. Switching to digital has allowed me to experiment far more and learn faster than I would have with film but I still appreciate the value of having learned with a fully manual camera.

Photographing nature and wildlife has taken me to some areas of outstanding natural beauty and so inevitably I have developed an interest in landscape photography as well. The pictures displayed on this site encompass both disciplines and some of the common ground between them. Having lived in the Netherlands for a year, I am now once again based in Glasgow, Scotland, making frequent trips to the Highlands and Islands as well as further a field to Germany and Finland.

When I go out with my camera, my aim has always been to capture that brief moment in time that makes a perfect day, so as to take it home and show it to others who could not be there.
